Wherever we are on Earth, the solstice marks a TURNING POINT and the BEGINNING of a new season. On solstice days, the Sun enters the signs of Capricorn and Cancer, while on equinox days it enters Aries and Libra. These are the CARDINAL signs — the signs of great beginnings, changes, and leadership.
They’re followed by Taurus, Leo, Scorpio, and Aquarius — the heart of each season, when the weather is most stable and change is least likely. These are called FIXED signs, aiming for stability and endurance.
The cycle ends with Gemini, Virgo, Sagittarius, and Pisces — times of shifting weather and seasonal transition. These are the MUTABLE signs, masters of adaptability and flexibility.
Then the cycle starts again — each time, with the Sun leading us into a new season and a fresh starting point. Today, in the Southern Hemisphere, the Sun is at its greatest strength, flooding life with light and energy for new beginnings. In the north, the Sun is “reborn,” slowly gaining strength and giving us more light each day — along with determination and energy for change.
So, with all this confident, forward-moving energy in the air, I wish that the changes in our lives be not just great and bold, but above all — HAPPY. Happy Solstice!
And don’t ask why the picture features a horse. True, a horse isn’t a Capricorn — but this horse is special: it’s greeting the Sun and is full of hope.
